A Word From the Author

“So are you back?” — ValyrianSteel

“….” — Juninho

(remember this)

Welcome to The Daily Merengue — a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name!

Shoutout to the Mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, KungFuZizou, NeRObutBlanco, Felipejack, and Juninho (the “boogeyman”).

Transfer News: Leny Yoro

Leny Yoro. According to media reports, Real Madrid is finally negotiating with Lille for Leny Yoro (France’s new brilliant CB). Leny has swatted interest from Premier League clubs and PSG, demanding that his next club is Real Madrid CF. Now that Real Madrid appears to be in the lead for this deal and have significant leverage (Yoro’s contract expires in 2025), this deal looks like it will be wrapped up shortly.

Juni’s Take: This deal is pretty much done if not already done. Sometimes its just as important to see who has been allowed to leave prior to examining who will come and this is definitely the case regarding Yoro. Nacho will be departing for one last massive contract, and Rafa Martin has been sold to Napoli. With uncertainty surrounding Alaba’s recovery, it is likely that Flo and co have already itemized their next CB signing. I expect for this to advance and potentially be announced in the next week or so prior to the US tour.

Transfer News: O Canada O Canada

Fonzie: With every growing week, the carrousel news surrounding Alphonso Davies seems to shift positively and then suddenly dip negatively. According to today’s reports, Davies is likely to leave Bayern Munich this summer. Davies has been negotiating (or not negotiating) a renewal with Bayern for the better half of 3 months and it appears that both parties are still at a standstill. Of course, if Davies is set to leave all signs point towards him gracing the poorly cut pitches (according to RM coaching legend Xavi) of the Santiago Bernabeu.

Juni’s Take: Similar to Yoro, this transfer feels pretty much done as both parties simply play poker to see who blinks first. Bayern are in the process of signing various expensive talents while needing to decrease their wage bill. Therefore, it would behoove the Bavarian club to sell one of their few talents who is asking for large wages and still has transfer value rather than losing him for free. I also expect this transfer to be wrapped up shortly. I honestly would’ve expected it to be announced by now if not for Canada remaining in the Copa.

Assuming Canada don’t win the Copa, let’s mark early next week on our calendars.

Lukewarm Transfer Take: God Gives And God Takes

Expect a large sale. I don’t even like putting this out there, but there’s a growing sense that a large sale is coming. Mainstream Real Madrid twitter would say it’s Rodrygo but it is sounding like he’s absolutely staying. I’m just seeing rumors of a sale for someone else.
