In a candid interview with Onda Cero’s ‘Radioestadio Noche’, Nacho Fernández opened up about his future at Real Madrid, his pride in being named to Spain’s Euro 2024 squad, and the anticipation surrounding the upcoming Champions League final. His words provide a glimpse into the mind of a seasoned professional, whose contributions on and off the field have been pivotal for both club and country.

Nacho’s inclusion in the Spanish squad for Euro 2024 was a source of great pride and surprise for the veteran defender.

“I’m very happy to be on the Spanish Euro 2024 squad list, it means that I’m doing things well,” Nacho said. “The truth is that I didn’t expect it…”

At Real Madrid, Nacho has often found himself starting the season low in the pecking order, only to emerge as a key player through sheer determination and hard work.

“My place in the Real Madrid team? I always start as one of the last in line, but thanks to my effort and my work I manage to turn the situation around,” he said. “In the end every year I am important in the team.”

With Real Madrid on the brink of matching Paco Gento’s record of six European Cups, Nacho spoke about the significance of this achievement.

“We are one step away from Paco Gento’s record,” Nacho explained. “It is incredible to be able to have 6 European Cups.”.

The discussion naturally turned to Real Madrid’s status as favorites for the Champions League final, a label that comes with its own set of challenges.

“Can being favourites in the Champions League Final hurt us? It’s reality, we are Madrid and we have won all the last finals,” he remarked. “It is normal for people to say that. In any case, we don’t think about that, knowing that if we are good it is very difficult to beat us.”

When asked about his future, Nacho remained cryptic but firm: “My future? I have decided what I am going to do when the season ends, but I am not going to say it now, it is not the day, it is not the moment. Nothing that happens is going to change my decision, even if we win the Champions League or the European Championship.”
