Real Madrid legend and Castilla coach Raul Gonzalez has once again been linked to former club Schalke 04 in a head coaching role according to a report from Relevo. However, it does say in the report that the chances of Raul accepting the job are very slim.

Schalke are in a bad spot, having fired their coach after a poor start to the season that’s got them sitting near the bottom of the second division of Germany. Raul is one of their preferred candidates for the job, but, it is unlikely the Spaniard will leave because that would mean he’d have to leave the team he has committed to, after working with them for the whole of pre-season.

Raul desperately needs a move away from Castilla to get his career going somewhere — if that is his ambition — but Schalke do seem like a sinking ship and although the club wants Raul to be their ‘Xabi Alonso’, it doesn’t seem like the perfect job for him.

Although, on the other hand, Castilla are just as much of a sinking ship right now, with just three points in five games, sitting second to last in the third division of Spain. With the lack of signings the team has had, it does not seem like the situation will improve.

Schalke would at least provide some much-needed experience, and Raul is a good coach who could potentially take them to a better situation. It does seem like a tough one for Raul, but the longer he stays at Castilla, the worse his job opportunities will be.
