Indian equity benchmarks opened flat on Wednesday, supported by strong earnings from infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro, which lifted market sentiment. However, gains remained limited amid caution ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve’s policy decision and uncertainty over the delayed India-U.S. trade deal.
At 9:29 am, the BSE Sensex was up 19 points, or 0.02%, at 81,355, while the Nifty50 rose 5 points, or 0.03%, to 24,828.
From the Sensex pack, L&T, NTPC, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, and Bajaj Finance opened in the green, while Tata Motors, HUL, ICICI Bank, ITC, and Eternal traded in the red.
L&T emerged as the top gainer on the Sensex, rising over 4% in early trade after the company reported a 30% year-on-year jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 3,617 crore for the June quarter. The strong performance was driven by robust execution across key businesses. Revenue from operations rose 16% YoY to Rs 63,679 crore, beating Street estimates of Rs 62,950 crore.
