England started their second group game against Denmark with exactly the same team and set-up as the 1-0 win over Serbia a few days ago. This was a questionable decision as Serbia bested the Three Lions for the best part of 50 minutes. That meant that match winner Jude Bellingham retained his spot as the ten, with Harry Kane ahead of him and Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden either side. It initially appeared that Denmark might take the same route as Serbia as they lined up with a flat back five – but the game was far more open from the off. Some Denmark mistakes made it look like an easier task for England to progress that ball into the final third, which is what led to their opening goal as some dedicated work from Kyle Walker led to the ball falling kindly to Harry Kane to bag his first of the tournament. Denmark started to make use of the ball and work their way back into the game. The equaliser came from a world class long ranged strike from the midfield, and England looked shaky going into half time. 1-1 at the break.
England came out lethargically after a 15 minute telling off session, with a long shot from Declan Rice all they could muster in the first five minutes. Bukayo Saka headed just wide moments later but frustrations were still evidently high. Phil Foden hit the post cleanly as things started to improve, before Saka shot way wide on the break. Denmark came lose via a couple of long ranged strikes, before England made various changes. Ollie Watkins came in and tested the keeper early on as he provided a different kind of outlet for Jude Bellingham to find with his runs in behind. It was becoming more apparent by the second that many of the England players were not on the same page as each other. Marc Guéhi made a mistake to let Denmark in, but to his credit recovered to stop the opposition from capitalising. Two chances later for the Danes, and the British fans were starting to sweat. Other than one or two moments of quality, Jude Bellingham had a quiet game. Still, he was not alone as it was another disappointing performance for England. 1-1 at full time, bringing the points tally up to 4. This should see them through to the knock-out phase. England finalise their group stage campaign on Tuesday against Slovakia, and at some point will need to improve.
